Our Mission and Vision

We are a dedicated, volunteer-run nonprofit organization committed to empowering young adults with developmental disabilities. Our mission is not only to support these individuals but also to help them lead fulfilling lives, and providing opportunities for personal growth, social interaction, and skill development. We believe that every individual, regardless of their challenges, has the potential to contribute meaningfully to society and to pursue their passions.

Creating Opportunities Through Our Cafe

One of our flagship initiatives is the operation of a bagel and coffee cafe that takes place on Sundays. This cafe serves as more than just a place to grab a bite to eat; it is a vibrant community hub where young adults can engage in various activities that foster their professional and personal development. By participating in this cafe, our volunteers and young adults work together to create a welcoming environment for customers, while also learning essential job skills that will benefit them in their future endeavors.

Skill Development and Learning

At our cafe, we focus on teaching a wide range of job skills that are vital in the workforce. These skills include, but are not limited to, food preparation, customer service, cash handling, and teamwork. Each Sunday, our participants are involved in every aspect of the cafe's operation, from serving fresh bagels and coffee and interacting with patrons. This hands-on experience not only builds their confidence but also enhances their communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.

 

Building Community Connections

The cafe also acts as a platform for building connections within the community. It allows our young adults to engage with customers, fostering meaningful relationships that extend beyond the cafe's walls. Families, friends, and local residents come together to support our mission, creating a sense of belonging and inclusivity that is vital for everyone involved. The cafe has become a beloved local spot, where patrons not only enjoy delicious food and beverages but also support a cause that promotes acceptance and empowerment.
